Introducing Simply Them
Little Things. Big Feelings. Entirely Themselves.
There is a season of growing up that can be surprisingly easy to miss.
They're no longer little in the ways they once were. The familiar toys have found their way into boxes. Their world has grown a little bigger, their opinions a little stronger, and their personalities a little more wonderfully their own.
Somewhere in the middle of all this becoming, there is a person worth remembering exactly as they are today.
Not for what they accomplish. Not for the activities they participate in, the milestones reached, or the things they do extremely well.
Just for who they are.
That is the heart behind Simply Them, a new portrait experience from Songs of Life Photography.
A Little Space to be Themselves
Created for young adults ages 11-16, Simply Them is a chance to step away from the expectations of everyday life and make a little room for something simple and meaningful.
There's no milestone to celebrate. No accomplishment to document. No need to be anything other than themselves.
They can show up in different ways:
The Things They Love-Dance, sports, music, art, hobbies and activities that make their eyes light up.
Just Being Me-Personality, humor, confidence, and those wonderful individual expressions.
In My Element-Photographs that show them ding what they love, in a place where they feel comfortable and at home.
A Little of Everything-For the young person who doesn't want to be defined by one activity and simply wants portraits that feel like them.
Perhaps they have a favorite book they can't put down, a creative side they're just beginning to explore, or a personality that seems to change a little every time you think you have them figure out.
All of it belongs.
The in-between years deserve to be remembered, too.
The ages between 11-16 often get overlooked in photography unless the young adults are taking part in their annual family photos or in recognizing big moments.
The birth of a child, being one, first day of school, Graduation day and so on.
But what about the years in-between? What about celebrating your 11-16 year old just because?
The years may not come with a built-in reason to schedule photographs. There may be no special occasion on the calendar and no particular achievement to commemorate.
But life is happening all the same.
And one day, you may find yourself wishing you had a photograph of that familiar expression, that unmistakable grin, or the way they looked at the world before everything changed again.
Sometimes, simply being here, in this season is reason enough. And, sometimes, celebrating them for who they individually is even better.
A Simple Experience, Centered on Them
Simply Them is intentionally uncomplicated.
In a relaxed 20 minute session, we'll focus on one young person, one location and one creative direction. There's room for their personality to lead, with gentle guidance along the way.
Depending on the direction you wish to go, they can bring an item that feels especially them-a book, dance outfit, or something else connected to a favorite interest. The focus is entirely on them, not necessarily the items, but those items can help create photographs that are uniquely theirs.
At Songs of Life, I believe photographs can do something beautiful: they can invite us to slow down long enough to notice the people we love.
Not just the people they were when they were small, or the adults they will eventually become, but the people standing in front of you today.
Simply Them is a natural extension of that belief.
It joins The Wonder of You, for newborns through age 2, Personality Portraits, which celebrate the wonder of early childhood, and You are Free to Fly, which honors the milestone of high school graduation. Together, these experiences create space to remember more than the beginnings and the endings.
They help us hold onto some of the chapters in between.
While your 11-16 year old may not always understand why these photographs matter, perhaps someday they'll look back and see something more than a photo.
They'll see who they were and remember a little of what it felt like to be that age.
They'll know that someone thought this version of them was worth preserving and celebrating.
Not because they had done something extraordinary, but simply because they were here, growing, changing and becoming themselves.
They're not little anymore, but they're not quite grown, either. Somewhere in the middle, they're becoming more wonderful every day.
Simply Them is a new portrait experience from Songs of Life, created to celebrate the young person they are right now.
No milestones required. Just space to be themselves, and photographs to remember this chapter by.
