Music is an incredible thing. It can transport you into a different world, create happiness, lift you out of a dark place or spark fun and joy. Each song captures a moment in time with a unique feeling. Life inspired photography is like that, too. It captures real moments in time that you might not see and it shows us the sad and happy moments and everything in between.

The rose in our logo represents so much more than a flower—it represents life itself. Like a rose, life is filled with incredible beauty, but it also comes with thorns. Those thorns symbolize the trials, heartaches, and challenges that leave their mark on us. Yet it is often through those very struggles that we grow, heal, and become stronger. Just as a rose blossoms into something breathtaking despite its thorns, our lives are shaped by the moments that test us, transforming us into something even more beautiful. That's the heart behind our belief in The Beauty of Life Captured—because every beautiful story is made even more meaningful by the journey that brought us there.

 When we photograph you, we will capture the sad, happy and joyful moments. We will capture behaviors that you might not see unless we show you. Real Life

We like to call our Portrait sessions, Family Storytelling Sessions, because they are telling your story!

We offer a unique approach because we believe that each family has a story that needs to be celebrated and that all our portrait sessions should help families draw closer together.

We like to get to know each person and their unique personalities beforehand, so your session will be unique to you and best showcase who you are. Depending on our findings, we will offer a mix of lifestyle and classic portraiture so you can see your family's love story come to life!

We go by the pace of your children, depending on their ages, and make sure they feel comfortable and are enjoying the time we are spending together. When they are happy, you are happy!

In the end, we strive for a stress free time by preparing and planning so all you have to do is show up for your session and enjoy the time you have together!

Most of the time, when photography sessions are brought up, people think about smiling, posed portraits. Portrait sessions are beautiful and so valuable! Having imagery of your family smiling, cuddling and posing in the beautiful Montana landscape is extremely priceless.

But, we think the candid, unscripted moments of your real life are just as valuable. We believe your family is a love story waiting to be told and we want to help you tell it.

Real Life is Beautiful Sessions are like documentary sessions- a style of photography that provides a straightforward and accurate representation of people, places, objects and events-and gives you an opportunity to live your everyday life and have it photographed in our life inspired style.

We often miss the moments of our real life because we are living it! Did you see the hug your son gave your daughter? Did you see your two year old get into the crayon box and use the wall as a canvas?

These moments are beautiful just like the smiling, posed portraits and just as priceless. We will spend time with you at your home or on an adventure hanging out and capturing the expected and unexpected. You are just living life and we happen to be there with a camera in our hand.

Your Investment, Your Choice

My hope is to make professional photography accessible to more families while continuing to do what I love. If my work blesses you, your contribution helps make it possible for me to continue creating meaningful images for others.

Most families choose to contribute between $175 and $450 per session, and it is ultimately up to you. Your investment choice is paid at the end of your session and should reflect the value and experience you received during our time together.

I have been in the photography industry for over 45 years. Starting in film photography in the 70's, I became a children's and concert photographer photographing groups such as Chicago, the Doobie Brothers, and more. The journey continued through the digital age and eventually culminated into a full time portrait studio photographing over 3000 high school seniors, families, and children in addition to commercial work.

Songs of Life is located in the Belgrade, Montana area and focuses on outdoor portraiture using the Montana landscape as a backdrop, and indoor using our client's homes for our Real Life is Beautiful sessions.

The Certified Professional Photographer credential was started in 1977 as a way to identify professional photographers who have demonstrated technical competence through a written exam and photograph evaluation. As with any certification, there are specific standards that must be met to become a CPP.

In this day and age, anyone can pick up a camera, flip on the automatic setting, and take nice pictures. But, as with any art or skill, there is so much more than that. A CPP is a professional designation, much like a master’s degree. It signifies that a photographer is continuously learning and evolving in their craft.

I believe in continuing education and learning as much as I can in this field. I came into the digital age armed with the knowledge of film photography and furthered that training with the New York Institute of Photography, and finally with the Professional Photographers of America certification program.

The certification program is an intensive three-day course followed by a written exam on all the technical aspects of photography. From there, photographers undergo a year-long evaluation where they must demonstrate their knowledge by preparing images that showcase their technical skills. Once the images are submitted, they are judged on technical merit, and if one of them does not pass the requirements, then none of them do.

Being certified by one of the largest photography associations in the country is a great honor to have. I strive to be the best artist I can be so every family can showcase their real, beautiful life.
