Legacy portrait photography by Songs of Life Photography in Belgrade, MT, created to celebrate each family’s story.

A new way to honor your family story is nearly here.

Timeless Portraits. Lasting Legacy.

Introducing Legacy Portrait Sessions

There was a time when having a family portrait made was something special.Families got dressed up. They gathered together in a studio. They stood close, smiled for the camera, and created a photograph that was meant to be kept.

Not just for themselves.

For their children.
For their grandchildren.
For the generations who would come after them.

There is something about those old studio portraits that I have always loved. They feel intentional. Beautiful. Classic. They tell us something about the people in the photograph and the time in which they lived.

I want to bring a little of that feeling back.

But I also want to make room for something those old photographs didn't always capture—the real personalities and relationships that make a family a family.

And that is the heart behind my new Legacy Portrait Sessions.

A portrait experience with a timeless feel

Legacy Portrait Sessions are held in an indoor studio setting and are inspired by the classic family portraits of generations past.

Think beautiful clothing, elegant surroundings, thoughtful posing, and photographs that will never feel tied to a particular trend or season. These are portraits you can imagine hanging in your home for years. The kind your children might someday look at and say, “Look how little I was.”

The kind that might eventually make their way into a family album, onto a wall, or into the hands of someone who wasn't even born when the photograph was taken. Because that is what makes a portrait a legacy. It isn't just about what it looks like today.

It is about what it will mean later.

But your family doesn't have to sit perfectly still.

While I love a beautiful, classic portrait, I don't believe every photograph needs to be perfectly posed. Especially when children are involved.

Children wiggle. They laugh. They play. They make funny faces. They get distracted. They have big personalities and little quirks that change far too quickly.

I want to photograph those things, too.

If your child wants to jump, let them jump. If siblings start laughing together, I'm going to photograph it. If they give me that wonderfully serious little look, I'm going to capture that, too.

Because someday, you won't just want to remember what your children looked like.

You'll want to remember who they were.

The way they smiled. The way they played. The way they leaned into you.

The expressions that were uniquely theirs. Those little pieces of childhood that you never realize you'll miss until they're gone.

More than a photograph

There is something powerful about gathering your family together for photographs. Life moves so quickly. Everyone has somewhere to be. Children grow. Families change. Seasons come and go.

A Legacy Session gives you permission to stop for a little while. To get dressed up. To be together. To look at one another. To laugh. To celebrate the people sitting beside you.

And yes, to create some really beautiful photographs along the way.

But the photographs are only part of it. The bigger gift is having something tangible that reminds you of this version of your family. Because one day, this version will be gone.

The little boy who couldn't stop moving will be a teenager. The little girl who insisted on doing things her own way will be grown. The parents who are juggling everything right now will look back and wonder how those years passed so quickly.

And you'll have these photographs.

Not just as pictures, but as pieces of your family's story.

Creating photographs for the generations who come after us

When I think about legacy photography, I don't just think about beautiful images. I think about the future.

I think about a child becoming a parent and showing their own children photographs of themselves when they were little. I think about grandchildren seeing the faces of the people who came before them.

I think about photographs being passed down and treasured because they are one of the few things we can hold onto that allow us to see a moment in our family's history.

That is why I want these portraits to feel timeless. Not trendy. Not overly complicated. Not dependent on a particular backdrop or style that will feel dated a few years from now.

Just beautiful photographs of the people you love. Together.

Exactly as you are in this season of your life.

Timeless portraits. Lasting legacy.

That is what I hope to create with every Legacy Portrait Session. A collection of photographs that feels beautiful today—but becomes even more meaningful with time.

Because your family deserves to be photographed. Not because everything is perfect. Not because everyone is always well-behaved or camera-ready.

But because this is your story. And your story is worth remembering.

Beautiful memories shouldn't be out of reach.

I'm so excited to begin offering Legacy Portrait Sessions and to create these timeless portraits with families who want to preserve a little piece of their story for the generations to come.

Timeless Portraits. Lasting Legacy.

Legacy Portrait Sessions will be available for booking Sept. 25.
