First and foremost, your children are the most important part of our session together. I want you to have beautiful images of your children that showcase their personalities, and after all the work that you do to get them ready, we want the end result to be beautiful images.
I also want the result to be a time that you and your family can connect more with each other so you can see your family's story come to life!
Of the 3500 sessions I have had over the many years I have been in business, there has only been ONE that had to end. In that case, we rescheduled for another day and everything went extremely well.
I say that to say, if one of your children isn't wanting to participate or is upset, there are things to do to help. And, there are things to do beforehand that will help them get more excited about our time together.
I've got 5 tips to help you and your children become more excited about our portrait session. These tips are best for children younger than 8-but you never know! An older child (or even an adult) can get just as excited!

Usually, I meet with families ahead of our session, so I will meet your children and won't be a stranger! This helps when we meet for our session as they usually feel more comfortable because of that.
But, that's not the tip-the tip is to tell your kiddos that you are going to a special place to have fun and take some fun photos with me. That way, they know who they will be with and they know they are going to have fun. Feel free to tell them where they will be going (a park name, for example), as that often helps them get excited even more.
Once we are at the location, it's ok to let them be playful or goofy. Often, these moments are the most special! Starting with movement and fun produces more organic images that bring out your children's personalities and helps you cherish them even more.
Play with them! When they start running, laughing or moving, jump in and give them a hug or kiss. Or better yet, scoop them up into your arms and laugh together! These are those moments that you will want to see in your album or storybox that showcases your family's love story beautifully. Our Story of Us outdoor sessions are meant to be a relaxed, fun experience. We do a few poses, but most are unposed to capture real life!
Stay positive! Even if circumstances don't go as planned, keep hugging and playing with your kids. If we need to take a break, change direction and regroup, we will. Doing this often resets the mood and temperature of the "room" and provides a much needed calming effect.
Save any treats or rewards for after the session. Sometimes a small toy, favorite book, or delicious treat can motivate a child (or an adult!) to enjoy the time more!

If we keep our time together more low key and fun, it won't feel like work to anyone. It will just be a fun time together.
No one has to be perfect; standing still looking at the camera. Children are full of energy, born movers and have a lot of fun expressions, and I want to capture those for you!
So, do your best to not worry. (sometimes easier said than done!) Let me capture your family's beautiful love story and help you see the beauty that is you!
